The Base Nautique de Colmar-Houssen is located in the municipalities of Colmar and Houssen, on the eastern side of a former gravel pit operated by HOLCIM Granulates, where a sandy beach has been created.
The sandy beach is 380 metres long, 250 metres of which are allocated to a supervised swimming area. The base also has a 1,000-square-metre water park with diving towers, trampolines, climbing walls and slides.
Users of the Base Nautique de Colmar-Houssen have free access to a permanent orienteering course.

Church and History
The present-day Saint-Maurice Church in Houssen was built between 1862 and 1868 and completely restored in 1997 after suffering damage during the Second World War. St Maurice has been the patron saint of Houssen’s church since the Middle Ages.
In the archives of Colmar, Houssen is mentioned under the name “Manus Husen” in a register of the possessions of Pairis Abbey dated 1176. Originally, Houssen was an imperial fief of Pflixbourg Castle. From 1350 until the French Revolution, the Ribeaupierre family held Houssen as a pledge.
More than 60 % of Houssen was destroyed during the Second World War; the town was located at a focal point of the fighting around the Colmar Pocket.
Festivals and Local Traditions
The Fête Paysanne in Houssen was scheduled to take place for its 45th edition in 2024. At the 2024 Fête Paysanne, meals were hosted in the farms of local farming families.
