Traubach-le-Bas: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Traubach-le-Bas is home to the Chapelle de pèlerinage Saint-Fridolin, a pilgrimage chapel. The Chapelle Saint-Fridolin was rebuilt in 1829–1830 on the site of an older chapel dating from the 18th century. Historically, Traubach-le-Bas had no parish church, only a simple chapel. In the past, the chapel served as a place of pilgrimage for the protection of herds, especially draft animals.

Culture

The chapel has a three-sided chancel facing northeast. Four stained-glass windows illuminate the nave, which is crowned at its end by a small wooden bell tower.

Regional Products

Ferme du Roetling specializes in processing its cows’ raw milk into cheese and fresh dairy products. The raw-milk cheeses Tuile du Sundgau and Crémeux de Marguerite are made there. Ferme du Roetling is located at 53 rue principale in Traubach-le-Bas.

Visits

Famille Riche organizes guided tours at its premises in Traubach-le-Bas to introduce visitors to beekeeping. The tour includes observing two glass-walled beehives as well as a presentation and tasting of hive products. The Famille Riche tour lasts between 1 hour 30 minutes and 2 hours.

Paths and Landscape

The “Route du lait” circular trail covers approximately 6 km and around 60 m of elevation gain. The route leads to the Oratoire de la Vierge, which offers a bench for resting and views over Traubach-le-Haut and the Vosges. The circular trail also offers views of the Black Forest and the Vosges.

Along the way, the route passes through a beech woodland and a tall fir forest. Below a small chalet, it is possible to descend to the pond. The “Route du lait” summer hike began at the car park in front of and behind Traubach-le-Bas Town Hall. The circular trail was marked with a green ring, except for the section between points 5 and 1.
