Culture and History
The Musée de la Chartreuse is housed in a former Carthusian monastery, which has been classified as a historic monument since 1998. The former Jesuit church of Molsheim, also known as the Catholic Church of Saint George, was classified as a historic monument by decree of 25 April 1939.
The Fondation Bugatti displays cars, unusual objects and numerous documents commemorating the designer Ettore Bugatti. The Musée d’Histoire et d’Archéologie de la Chartreuse houses archaeological collections from prehistoric and protohistoric excavations in Achenheim and Dachstein, as well as from the Gallo-Roman archaeological site at Heiligenberg.
The Metzig also reflects the history of the town: in the past, its ground floor was used for slaughtering and selling meat, while the upper floor housed a large hall for banquets and meetings of the butchers’ guild. The Chapelle Notre-Dame is a neo-Gothic chapel of the Chanoinesses, built between 1864 and 1867 and dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The Explor Game “Le Mystère de la Chartreuse” guides visitors with a tablet through the centuries-old streets of Molsheim’s old town.
Nature
In the Molsheim section of the Bruche, there is an active protected area between the locality of La Pierre Carrée downstream and the boundary at the Molsheim sign on Route des Loisirs upstream.
The Étangs du Zich consist of the Étang bassin, the Étang de concours, the Étang des Iris and the Étang des Joncs, and are supplied with water by the Bruche. The Étangs du Zich are home to freshwater fish such as roach, crucian carp, pike and carp.
Wine and Events
Grand Cru Bruderthal is a historic vineyard site in Molsheim, mentioned among the wine-growing holdings of the Diocese of Strasbourg since 1316. Since 1962, the Braderie du 1er mai has taken place every year on 1 May, with around 200 stalls.
