Archaeological finds in the “Niederfeld” area indicate a permanent, dense settlement in Ichtratzheim since the Bronze Age. A prehistoric tool was also found in the “Oberfeld” area, providing evidence of human activity in the Alsatian plain.

Landscape
Ichtratzheim lies both in the typical Alsatian plain and—in the area of today’s forest—in the Grand Ried d’Alsace. The former course of the Ill shaped part of the municipality; visible traces of it can still be found today.
History and Culture
The medieval necropolis discovered in Ichtratzheim includes the tomb of Princess Abuda. The village’s medieval history also includes its fortification and the existence of a castle characteristic of the Alsatian plain.
The Saint Gallus Church was completely rebuilt in 1835. Its predecessor, built in the 1630s, had become too small for the growing congregation. The façade of the Saint Gallus Church is designed in the Neoclassical style.

Les foies gras du Ried produces goose and duck foie gras in Ichtratzheim and also offers Crémant d’Alsace, Alsatian spirits, and other regional products. Guided tours for groups are available by arrangement.
