Holiday Apartment in Vordingborg Municipality – Nature, Trails and Medieval Culture

The Møn Biosphere Reserve belongs to Vordingborg Municipality and includes 119 preserved megalithic tombs from prehistoric Denmark. Between natural areas, coastal trails and historic sites, this creates a destination where landscape and history stand closely side by side.

Nature

Ulvshale Forest is an open, light-filled pasture woodland. Ulvshale was formed from flint stones from Møns Klint, while the network of paths in Klinteskoven offers dramatic views from the cliff edge of Møns Klint. On Ulvshale and Nyord, birdlife is the most significant natural attraction. Because of their birdlife, both areas are internationally protected under the Ramsar Convention.

The hiking trail on Ulvshale also has one clearly designated feature: it can be used by wheelchair users and people with walking disabilities. Alongside the distinctive woodland and coastal area, this provides a section of trail with named accessibility.

Hiking and Trails

The Camønoen is a 175-kilometre-long hiking trail through Møn, Nyord and Bogø. It is divided into stages and detours, allowing visitors to choose individual routes. In addition, Vordingborg Municipality has marked networks of hiking, cycling and riding trails.

Along the Camønoen, an official Camønopause offers water, toilets, electricity or a charging station, shelter, and the opportunity to connect with local residents. The regional hiking route Sjællandsleden is being established along the coast of Vordingborg Municipality, enabling tourists and local residents to use areas near the coast.

At the cliff edge, the landscape remains present beyond hiking alone: GeoCenter Møns Klint offers guided expeditions along the cliff coast, where visitors can find fossils that are 70 million years old.

Culture and History

Danmarks Borgcenter conveys the medieval history of power in Vordingborg. Vordingborg Castle Ruins include Gåsetårnet, the old ring wall and the remains of St Andrew’s Church. Visitors can explore the castle ruins with an audio guide.

In Stege, Møns Museum presents twelve stories about Møn from antiquity to the present day. The museum is housed in Empiregården, a historic merchant’s courtyard. Also in Stege is Mølleporten, a well-preserved relic of the medieval town fortifications. Mølleporten was probably built in the late Middle Ages, between 1418 and 1452. Visitors can enter the gate and enjoy views of the town and sea from the historic fortifications.

Kunsthal 44Møen presents summer exhibitions from 23 May to 20 September, as well as public artworks in the surrounding nature. All buildings of Kunsthal 44Møen are accessible to wheelchair users, with the exception of PS44.

On Nyord, Møllestangen is a four-square-metre museum about the work of pilots and the history of Nyord. Admission to the Møllestangen Museum is free from sunrise to sunset.

By the Water

Danmarks Borgcenter and Masnedøfortet can be reached on foot from Masnedsund Havn. Præstø Harbour is a good starting point for discovering Præstø Fjord and the historic town centre.
