Discover Vaeggerloese
Vaeggerloese between wetland, mill and cycling route
Vaeggerloese offers a varied setting for a trip that combines nature observation, culture and activity. Particularly notable is the Bøtø Nor bird sanctuary, with shallow lakes, meadows and reed beds. In autumn, the wetland is of great importance to birds. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Vaeggerloese, you can therefore first consider whether quiet nature experiences, cultural discoveries or an active day trip should be the focus of your journey.
Nature observation at Bøtø Nor
The birdlife of Bøtø Nor can be observed from two bird towers. One of the towers is accessible via a ramp and designed for people with disabilities and people with impaired mobility. From the towers, you can observe ducks, waders, white-tailed eagles, marsh harriers and cranes, among others. For a trip with children or people with different interests, this place provides a specific reason to walk attentively through the landscape together and make observing the animals the goal of the day.
Bøtø Nor therefore represents a different travel experience from a cultural route: here, the focus is on bodies of water, meadows, reeds and birds.
Cultural and historical attractions
Bøtø Nor Gl. Pumpestation is a cultural history museum and a unique historical monument. Stouby Mølle also makes a special impression: it is the only mill of its kind in Denmark powered by a star wheel that drives three millstones. The mill shop sells coffee, water, ice cream, locally produced specialities and handicrafts.
Væggerløse Church adds to the cultural selection with its architectural history. The chancel and nave date from the Romanesque period, while the tower is late medieval; there are also two extensions from 1861. Anyone interested in church art and historic architectural forms will find another specific attraction to visit here.
Exploring by bicycle
The “coast-to-coast” cycling route leads from Marielyst towards Væggerløse. Along the way, you can visit Stouby Mølle and Stouby Glaspusteri, among other places. The route is 38 km long, fully signposted and designated as Route 418. It also passes over a hill near Væggerløse and offers a view of Guldborgsund. This allows you to choose between nature observation, cultural stops and a longer cycling tour, depending on how you would like to spend your holiday days.
Choosing a location and further orientation
Two bus routes run through Væggerløse to Nykøbing F. This is a useful consideration when choosing your accommodation and planning days on which you do not want to travel exclusively by bicycle. A holiday apartment or holiday house in Vaeggerloese can thus be incorporated into a travel plan that combines nature, history and different modes of transport.
If you would like to extend your search to other places, you can find additional destinations here: Hjelm, Eskilstrup, Listrup, Tingsted, Ore, Elkenøre, Nykøbing Falster, Toreby.
