Listrup: Moorland, forest paths and historical traces
Listrup combines a distinctive moorland landscape with extensive forests and traces of times gone by. At its heart lies Listrup Lyng, also known as Borremosen: this larger moorland area on the Tingsted Å includes several small lakes created through peat extraction. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home as a base for varied days will find nature observations, walking paths and historic destinations in a diverse setting here.
Moorland lakes, water lilies and rare nature
The lakes of Borremosen display white water lilies during the summer months. In addition, despite its small size, Listrup Lyng has a good and comparatively large population of the rare large white-faced darter. In Hannenov and Ovstrupskovene, you can observe fallow deer all year round; however, the animals are very shy. This combination of water surfaces, wooded peat bog and beech forest gives the landscape its characteristic variety. The Falster Ås ridge system ends at Listrup south of Hannenov Skov.
A marked hiking trail leads around Borremosen, which is also called Listrup Lyng. Another option is the 3.4 km red route of the Sporet Præsteskoven-Skjørringe-Virket Sø circular trail, which passes through Listrup Lyng. The red route continues via a footbridge to Skjørringe Lyng on Skjørringe Gods. A picnic area is available in Listrup Lyng for a break. Fishing is permitted in the lake at Listrup Lyng with a valid fishing licence.
Forest paths for different day plans
The car park in the northern Hannenov Skov is a good starting point for tours in the northern part of the forest with Listrup Lyng. This allows you to adapt your day directly to the landscape you wish to visit, without having to derive a fixed order from the various paths. The 4.5 km Hjertesti trail also runs through Ovstrup Skov. If you prefer to travel by bicycle, you can explore Hannenov Skov along the Munkevejen route. It conveys the history of the introduction of Christianity in the countries around the Baltic Sea.
For longer excursions, the 42 km-long Motionsslangen runs through Hannenov and Ovstrup Skov. A shorter outing and an extensive bicycle tour are therefore available as different options. A detour on the way south offers views across the meadows and peat workings of Borremosen at the Sparekasseeg oak.
Historical destinations in the forest area
The history of the surrounding area can also be discovered on paths through the landscape. Falsters Virke is a 1.3 km-long system of ramparts that runs through Hannenov Skov. It served as a refuge where the local population could seek protection in dangerous times. Opposite Virkethus at the northeastern corner of Hannenov Skov, remains of Frederik Vilhelm Berregaard’s experimental nursery can be seen; Berregaard began his experimental work in 1871.
At the Listrup Jættestue on Falster, a burial field with urns from the older Iron Age, approximately from 500 BC to AD 375, was excavated. The chamber of the Listrup Jættestue is up to approximately 15 m long. Together with Falsters Virke, this creates an excursion programme combining nature, landscape history and traces of human activity.
Choose Listrup as your base
When choosing your accommodation, you can be guided by your preferred type of trip: the moorland paths and small lakes are ideal for days of nature observation and short stretches of walking, while Hjertesti, Munkevejen and Motionsslangen offer different forms of hiking and cycling. Those who also wish to include historical destinations in their plans will find further specific points of interest in Falsters Virke, the Listrup Jættestue and the former experimental nursery. This allows you to adapt your search for holiday accommodation in Listrup to your preferred daily rhythm and the desired mix of landscape and history.
For further orientation in the area, you will also find Øster-Ulslev, Elkenøre, Kettinge, Stavreby, Ore, Nykøbing Falster, Nykøbing Falster and Idestrup.
