Rønne Parish: Merchant’s House, Stage and Galløkken
Accommodation in Rønne Parish
Rønne Parish combines cultural history, performing arts and a natural area by the beach. Erichsens Gård is a well-preserved 19th-century merchant’s house, while Galløkken, with its open natural area about one kilometre south of the centre, offers a different focus. Art, historic houses and performances provide ideas for holiday outings; paths and a bathing beach add time outdoors to the options.
History and Art in Rønne
Erichsens Gård is a well-preserved 19th-century merchant’s house and now serves as a museum. The painters Kristian Zahrtmann and Holger Drachmann lived here; Drachmann was also a poet. The house thus brings together the history of a merchant’s home and the lives of two artists.
In addition to its permanent exhibition, the Hjorths Fabrik museum features changing presentations of artists’ work. If you would like to see a particular exhibition, check what is currently on display in advance. Bornholms Forsvarsmuseum covers a different span of time, presenting stories from Bornholm’s history from the Middle Ages to the Cold War.
Music and Theatre
Musikhuzet, Bornholm’s largest indoor music venue, is located at Store Torv. It hosts concerts, talks and other small-scale events, where audiences are often close to the artists. The history of Rønne Theatre dates back to 1823. Performances include dialect comedies as well as plays written and performed in Bornholm’s original language. Musikhuzet focuses on music and talks, while the theatre focuses on dialect and Bornholm-language stage texts. If you are planning for a specific date, check the current programme.
Galløkken: Paths and Beach
Galløkken Beach is about one kilometre south of the centre of Rønne, in the open natural area of Galløkken. The area has surfaced paths that are also accessible to families with pushchairs and people with reduced mobility. There is also direct access to a newly established bathing beach. Galløkken therefore offers a different holiday focus from museums and cultural events.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Rønne, this difference can be a useful starting point: consider whether you would like to spend more of your holiday visiting museums and events or walking in the natural area and spending time at the beach. As you continue your search, you can compare the location of a specific accommodation with your plans.
Bornholm in the Wider Travel Picture
Other attractions across Bornholm add to the picture of Rønne’s cultural sites. The NaturBornholm experience centre features dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition; the displays may change. Bornholm’s first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, and herring has been smoked there ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked in the traditional way, using open chimneys and alder wood.
