The free audio walk on Pærskerstien starts in Pedersker and is available through the Sansâga Walks app. Before planning your trip, check whether the app is currently available.

Another route idea takes you through the southern part of nearby Lynggårdsskoven, also known as Pedersker Skov. The marked route is about 1.5 kilometres long. The forest is Bornholm's youngest state forest.

Even a detail of everyday life in town tells a story about the island: the Brugsen supermarket in Pedersker has signs with text in the Bornholm dialect. The local language and signage add a cultural impression to the experience of exploring the routes.

Bornholm: nature, history and smokehouse traditions

On Bornholm, the NaturBornholm experience centre offers insights into a range of subjects: it has dinosaurs, live crocodiles, an aquarium and a bison exhibition. The exhibits on offer may change. Bornholms Middelaldercenter focuses on history. This 15-hectare open-air museum vividly and interactively brings 14th-century Bornholm to life.

The landscape, too, reveals different sides of the island. Ekkodalen in Almindingen is Bornholm's largest rift valley. Two viewpoints offer different perspectives on Hammershus: from the visitor centre, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the site. From the cliffs above Opalsøen, the view extends across the surrounding area, the Baltic Sea and the ruins of Hammershus Castle.

The smokehouse tradition is part of Bornholm's food culture. Bornholm's first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, and herring has been smoked there ever since. Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked in the traditional way, using open chimneys and alder wood. The two places represent different aspects of this island tradition: its history in Gudhjem and its distinctive smoking method in Hasle.

Getting to Bornholm and planning your visit

Bornholm can be reached by ferry, plane, bus or train. The ferry crossing from Ystad to Bornholm takes one hour and 20 minutes. Check the latest timetables before travelling.

At Østerlars Round Church, visitors can enter for a fee and climb up to the roof beams when no service is taking place. Check before your visit whether this is currently possible.
