Around Klemensker and by the water

The Klemenskerstien makes a complete circuit of Klemensker. The trail is not marked, so bear this in mind when planning the route and finding your way. Cyclists also have a specific route to follow: Regional Route 23 reaches Klemensker from Nyker. This gives you two different ways to include the village in your holiday plans: a circuit around Klemensker and a cycle route approaching from Nyker.

Præstemosen is also located in Klemensker, near Klemens Church. By the lake, there is a shelter and a wooden bridge that extends out over the water. The bridge provides access close to the water, while the area around the shelter offers space for an outdoor break. A visit here therefore has a different character from walking the Klemenskerstien: instead of circling the village, you can linger by the water.

Church art in the village centre

The large St. Clement's Church stands in the centre of Klemensker and is visible from far away. Its interior also features some distinctive details: Paul Høm donated a mosaic above the chancel arch to Sct. Clemens Kirke. It depicts a pierced lamb with a victory banner and chalice. Høm also chose the colours of the church interior and designed the 1882 pulpit, with figures of the four Evangelists and vine motifs in its panels. The mosaic and the pulpit make different contributions: an image above the chancel arch, and figurative and botanical decoration on the pulpit.

Bornholm specialities in Klemensker

Bornholms Andelsmejeri invites visitors to sample Bornholm specialities. Blue cheeses are still turned by hand at the dairy, offering a specific insight into the production process alongside the culinary experience. Bornholm's landscapes include Ekkodalen in Almindingen, the island's largest rift valley. The Hammershus visitor centre offers panoramic views of Hammershus. From the cliffs above Opal Lake, the view stretches across the surrounding area, the Baltic Sea and the ruins of Hammershus Castle. Bornholm's range of landscapes therefore offers different experiences: a valley, a view of Hammershus from the visitor centre, and a vista from the cliffs.

Bornholm's smokehouses also tell the story of regional food culture. The island's first smokehouse opened in Gudhjem in 1866, where herring has been smoked ever since. Hasle is home to the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is smoked in the traditional way, using open chimneys and alder wood. In Klemensker, you can sample Bornholm specialities; Gudhjem and Hasle offer their own distinct connections to the smoking tradition.

The Østerlars Round Church offers another Bornholm experience: when no service is taking place, visitors can enter for a fee and climb up to the roof beams. Check the latest visitor conditions before your visit, as access is subject to this condition.
