Arnager: Coast and harbour on Bornholm

Arnager combines a varied coastline with a harbour where swimming and fishing are possible. Arnager Bugt is a coastal stretch about four kilometres long in southern Bornholm. It extends from Arnager Havn in the west to Sose Odde in the east. If you want to head to the sea here, you’ll find that the seabed is not the same everywhere: stretches with good bathing sand alternate with stonier beach areas.
Coast, cliffs and fortifications
The landscape around the bay also has several facets. The coastal cliffs near Arnager are of national geological significance. Areas around Arnager Bugt are part of Natura 2000 site No. 187, Kystskrænterne ved Arnager Bugt. This designation applies to areas around the bay, not to the entire coastline as a whole. There are also two fortifications in the areas near Arnager.
Harbour island, swimming and fishing
A wooden bridge at the harbour leads out to a small harbour island, located 200 metres offshore. There are two swimming steps and a swimming ladder at the bridge. Swimming is possible in Arnager harbour all year round, and you can also fish there with a rod. This means there are different ways to enjoy a day by the water: you can use the harbour as a swimming spot or bring a fishing rod. The bridge and small island also give the harbour a distinct connection to the open coast.
Walking along the coast
Arnager lies on the seventh stage of the Kyststien from Boderne to Rønne. The stage passes through Arnager and includes a stony beach, as well as ups and downs along the coastal slopes. The coastal path and a visit to the harbour offer different experiences: walking along varied stretches of coast, or swimming and fishing by the water. When planning your holiday, you can decide how much time to set aside for a walk alongside time at the beach and harbour. Route conditions and markings may change.
Practical information
There is parking in Arnager for a limited number of cars, as well as picnic tables, benches and a toilet. In the easternmost area near Arnager, there is also a shelter site with a fire pit and waste bins. As the condition of these facilities may change, it is a good idea to check before your visit.

Hasle Smokehouse is the last smokehouse on Bornholm where fish is traditionally smoked using open chimneys and alder wood. These island attractions complement Arnager’s distinctive coastal character.
