Holiday apartment in Velký Ořechov – Fortress and St. Wenceslas Church
Velký Ořechov is home to a fortress that preserves several Baroque portals. The building dates from the 15th century, was remodelled in the 18th century, and is of particular historical, architectural and urban-planning significance.
Culture and history
The Church of St. Wenceslas in Velký Ořechov is part of the village’s historical and religious character. It is a Baroque church from the late 17th century in the style of the late Italian Baroque. It contains a main altar dedicated to St. Wenceslas, as well as side altars dedicated to the Betrothal of the Virgin Mary and St. Wendelin.
In the centre of Velký Ořechov stands the stone statue of St. John of Nepomuk. It dates from 1733 and stands on a masonry pedestal that was refurbished more recently. On a road south of Velký Ořechov there is also the small niche chapel “Boží muka”, which dates from the late 18th century.
Trails and landscape
The “Po hranici devíti katastrů” educational trail is suitable for cycling. Its route runs mostly through easily accessible, almost level woodland. The trail also offers a turn-off via Velký Ořechov towards Luhačovice or Zlín. This connects the place name with a specific route whose landscape character and directions are clearly identified.
Water
A 2.5-hectare multipurpose reservoir was created on the Částkovský stream in Velký Ořechov. A protected sulphur spring is also located in the cadastral area of Velký Ořechov.
