Větrný Jeníkov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Větrný Jeníkov tells its story through several phases of construction: the castle originated from the fortress built by Želiv Monastery in the first half of the 13th century, was converted into a Baroque château after 1719, and acquired its present Neo-Gothic form in 1904.

Culture and History

The Museum of Czechoslovak RAF Airmen is located in Větrný Jeníkov. It presents the legacy of 2,500 Czechoslovak airmen and soldiers who fought in the ranks of the British Royal Air Force during the Second World War.

The registered cultural heritage includes the Jewish cemetery south of Větrný Jeníkov near Dolní mlýn above Jiřínský potok, which is registered as an immovable cultural monument, as well as the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, which is also registered as an immovable cultural monument. The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk is a small square chapel built after the middle of the 18th century and protected as a heritage site since 1958.

Landscape

The floodplains of Jiřínský potok and Úsobský potok are designated as legally significant landscape features and serve for natural flood retention. Orlík, a ruin, is located in the surroundings of Větrný Jeníkov. The mountains in the same area include Březina, Špičák, Přední skála, and Vysoká.

In the wider regional surroundings of Větrný Jeníkov are Želivský Kláštor Monastery, Roštejn Castle, and the Janštejn ruin.

Getting Around

Dolní mlýn was converted into a smithy. By prior arrangement, a museum tour led to Dolní mlýn; during the tour, the group was shown the mill wheel of Dolní mlýn. A green-marked hiking trail leads from Humpolec to Smrčná.
