Rácovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Rácovice combines a distinctive village-square ensemble with a complex history. The Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius was built in 1901 and stands on a lawn in the village center, directly next to the pond. As a defining feature, it forms part of Rácovice village square. A cast-iron cross stands directly in front of the chapel. The wayside cross at the chapel is registered as a cultural monument under number 18117/7-3096; it stands on a stone pedestal, has trefoil-shaped ends, and bears a cast-iron corpus of Christ. At its base is a 19th-century relief of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Villagescape and History

The historic village center and the village square around the chapel include a public green space with landscaped park features. Rácovice is also home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from the first half of the 18th century. A historic granary shapes the farmstead beside the pond.

Older structural traces are also part of the traditional history of the village. The former sheep pen was converted into a residential building in 1896. Around the middle of the 14th century, Rácovice presumably already had a stone fortress, or one was under construction. According to the traditional history of the village, escape passages from the Rácovice fortress ran beneath the front section of the former sheep pen.

Water and Landscape

Rácovický rybník lies in the middle of the Bihanka Valley. Around 1700, a cascade of ponds was created along the left wooded side as far as Dědice. The pond below Křivánky was formerly used for fish farming; below its dam there were fish-holding ponds.

Paths and Transport

Two routes of local importance intersect in Rácovice. The existing network of field and farm tracks can also be used to some extent by pedestrians and cyclists. No České dráhy trains currently stop at Rácovice railway station.
