In the center of Pyšel stands the Pyšelská tvrz, a very well-preserved tower of a water castle dating from the 14th century.

Culture and History

The Pyšelská tvrz is privately owned and used for private purposes. It is also designated a cultural monument. The Church of Saint Barbara is a Neoclassical building dating from 1788; its exterior façade was extensively restored in 2008.

The chapel in Stráž also bears several historical layers. Its present form dates from 1935. Construction had already begun in 1901 at the site where a Marian apparition is said to have occurred in 1893.

Pilgrimages

A pilgrimage takes place annually at the Church of Saint Barbara on the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, 15 August. Every year at Pentecost, a small pilgrimage with Holy Mass is held at the chapel in Stráž.

Paths

The Stations of the Cross in Pyšel are an outdoor devotional path with 14 traditional stations. It begins at the local cemetery and leads uphill to Stráž Hill. Its length is approximately the same as the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem; the distances between the individual stations also correspond to those in Jerusalem.

If you would like to explore other places from the same selection in addition to Pyšel, you can find Bochovice, Radošov, Valdíkov, Petrůvky, Jiratice, Častohostice, Slavětice and Lhánice here.
