Matějov combines distinctive bodies of water, moorland landscapes and historic small monuments with the Babín educational trail. Between ponds, wetlands and the mountains in the surrounding area, a local landscape emerges in which nature and culture stand closely side by side.

Nature

The Matějovský rybník pond is located in the municipality and cadastral area of Matějov. It is surrounded by wetlands and marshy meadows with species-rich sedge stands. Bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata) and hare's-tail cottongrass (Eriophorum vaginatum) grow in the meadows.

The Babínský rybník pond is also located in the cadastral area of Matějov. Its water surface covers 8.3 hectares, and it lies in the headwaters of the Oslava. The body of water has acidic, peat-coloured water; sedges, rushes, cottongrasses and peat mosses grow along its banks.

Educational Trail

The Babín educational trail leads through the best-preserved natural areas of the Žďárské vrchy. Along the route, it explains to visitors the special role of forests, moors, wetlands and ponds in nature.

Culture

The Chapel of the Name of the Virgin Mary stands in Matějov. Its construction began in 1907 according to plans by the builder Josef Křelina from Zámek Žďár. The chapel's furnishings were completed in 1910; it was consecrated in the same year.

Matějov is also home to an early Baroque stone wayside shrine with a column. The Boží muka column shrine is located on the outskirts of Matějov on the road to Nové Veselí and is crowned by a four-sided chapel with niches.
