Želetava’s history is particularly evident in the Church of St. Michael: the protected ensemble comprises the church, the surrounding wall of the former cemetery, and a gate. The church dates back to a Gothic building from the early 14th century, was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century, and altered after fires in 1677, 1760, and 1842.

Culture and History

The Chapel of St. Catherine in Želetava is an immovable cultural monument. The single-nave, rectangular building has a decorated entrance façade, a niche with a statue of St. Catherine, a roof turret, and a gabled roof covered with plain clay tiles.

The Marian column stands on Svornosti Square in Želetava and is surrounded on three sides by a fountain with a stone surround. The present-day fountain was built in 1844 after an older fountain dating from 1577 had been relocated. A pilgrimage takes place at the Church of St. Michael on the Sunday around 29 September.

Nature and Bodies of Water

The Želetavka stream is the most significant body of water flowing through Želetava. The ponds Bouzek, Rekreant, Hadrava, Pánkův, and Panský are located in the surrounding area and are used mainly for fishing and recreation.

The mountains Rudný, Mařenka, Srnčí vrch, and U Obrázku are located in the immediate vicinity of Želetava.

A red-marked trail leads from Želetava towards Havlišův mlýn; the route is listed as 3 km long. The Church of Svatá Markéta is also located nearby.
