Vejprty: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Vejprty and the German municipality of Bärenstein form a visually continuous cross-border settlement divided only by the Polava border stream. This distinctive townscape is combined with a multifaceted history and a cultural life that continues to the present day.

Culture and History

One of Vejprty’s defining buildings is the cemetery church of St. Martin. It stands on a hillside above the town and was built in the Gothic style in the mid-16th century. In the historic town centre is the Church of All Saints on the west side of Kostelní Square. Its tall, slender tower also serves as a landmark for the surrounding area. Originally, it is a late Baroque, single-nave building with predominantly Rococo-style interiors dating from the end of the 18th century.

Since 1899, Nové Zvolání has been home to the single-nave, Neo-Gothic Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, with a tower aligned with the church axis. The mining settlement of Neugeschrei, today’s Nové Zvolání, was established around 1550 around the deep Johann in the Desert adit (Jan na poušti), which was built after the discovery of a silver-bearing ore vein. In Vejprty itself, the Baroque house No. 309 dates from 1787; it is the town’s oldest non-sacred building.

Bobbin lace is also part of the town’s history: it arrived in Vejprty in 1693 and became an important source of livelihood for the local population. The Vejprty forest cemetery opened on 1 October 1908; its layout forms a harmonious ensemble of cemetery architecture.

Art and Events

The Ja.Ro. Gallery is located in Vejprty at Moskevská 69, 431 91 Vejprty. In addition, private galleries organise various exhibitions and symposia with international participation. The municipal cultural and social centre also organises various events, including Staročeské máje.

Border Region

Vejprty has road, pedestrian and bicycle crossings into Germany. The town’s cross-border character is therefore evident not only in the continuous settlement shared with Bärenstein, but also in the crossings that are available.

Winter

A signposted cross-country skiing test route in Vejprty starts in Nouzov at the Vejprty lift, leads through the upper part of the town and Nové Zvolání, and ends after returning to Vejprty in a meadow on Luční Street.
