České Hamry: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

České Hamry was established on the Polavský potok, which forms the border between Bohemia and Saxony.

Culture and history

České Hamry was probably established in the 16th century as a settlement of people who processed iron from the nearby ore district near Kovářská. After the Battle of White Mountain, the sister settlement of Hammerunterwiesenthal was established on the opposite bank, to which a large proportion of the inhabitants of České Hamry fled from religious persecution.

The history of Jaroslav Soukup is also connected with the village: he was shot on 26 August during an evening patrol on the road from České Hamry to the state border and died of his injuries on 21 October.

The village is home to the Church of Saint Elisabeth of Hungary, a simple church dating from the 1920s. It continues to serve the small local Catholic community.

Cycling and hiking

Regional cycle route 3002 from Stráž nad Ohří to Vejprty passes through České Hamry. In addition, the 73-kilometre cycle route from Vejprty to Chomutov reaches České Hamry at kilometre 7. This route is classified as demanding and runs along roads as well as the Krušnohorská magistrála.

A tourist hiking trail runs between České Hamry and Hammerunterwiesenthal. A 14-kilometre hike from Kovářská to Königsmühle initially follows the road towards České Hamry and turns towards Háj shortly before descending into the settlement.
