Ochoz U Brna: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Ochoz u Brna is located in the southernmost part of the Moravian Karst Protected Landscape Area. Between the Říčky Valley, wooded slopes, caves and historical remains, a varied village landscape unfolds.
Nature
The Údolí Říčky educational trail is an easy 3 km hiking route. Along the trail, there are ten information boards covering geology, archaeology and the surrounding nature. The educational trail has eight stations and follows a watercourse whose water alternately disappears below the surface and re-emerges.
The Říčky Nature Park offers extensive cycling tours and walks through a picturesque landscape with meadows along the meandering Říčka stream and steep slopes of wooded hills. The Ochozská jeskyně dripstone cave is the largest cave in the Říčky Valley.
Archaeology
Pekárna Cave can be reached from Ochoz via a blue hiking trail along a forest path of approximately 2 km beside the stream. Švédův stůl Cave lies in the Říčky Valley near the blue hiking trail towards Pekárna, approximately 1.5 km from Ochoz.
In Švédův stůl Cave, an approximately 15,000-year-old engraved limestone block depicting a horse was discovered; it is an exceptional example of Magdalenian art. A Neanderthal lower jaw was also found there, also known as the Ochozská čelist. In the wider vicinity of Ochoz u Brna, rare finds of Stone Age stone artefacts from the Early Stone Age come from Pekárna Cave and are represented in the archaeological collections of the Muzeum Brněnska.
Culture
The late-Renaissance Church of St. Wenceslas in Ochoz u Brna was built in 1606 on the site of a chapel dating from around 1250. After repairs in 1658–1659 following the Thirty Years’ War, the church was expanded between 1740 and 1750.
The traditional masopustní Vostatky festival takes place in Ochoz. The Svatováclavské hody festival is also held in Ochoz.
