Holubice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Holubice is located within the protected heritage zone of the Austerlitz battlefield. At the same time, the village lies in an intensively farmed, hilly and varied landscape on the right bank of the Rakovec stream, on the boundary between the Thaya–Svratka Valley and the Upper Moravian Valley.

Historical Traces in the Village

The village square is home to the 18th-century Chapel of Saint Gotthard, set in a small park. The Church of Saint Wenceslas was completed and ceremonially opened to the public on 14 July 1929. Its construction was made possible by collections of money from local residents and supported by local patrons Cyril Frank, František Brtník, František Frank and Alois Frank.

Archaeological finds also point to the village’s long history: rescue excavations associated with the construction of the D1 motorway uncovered a Stone Age grave and a Lombard burial ground, as well as jewellery, ceramic vessels, weapons and various tools.

Battlefield and Educational Trails

The educational trail dedicated to the Battle of Slavkov passes through Holubice. The public educational trail “Battle of the Three Emperors” uses 29 map panels to explain the significance of the battle and its main engagements. On site, it provides information about the event’s European political and worldwide military significance. The panels show the combat situation, portraits of the commanders and schematic depictions of the main engagements; the texts also explain the situation on 2 December 1805. Heavy fighting took place in the northern part of the Austerlitz battlefield near the municipalities of Holubice and Kruh.

Festivals and Local Traditions

The annual programme is shaped by several traditional festivals. Babské hody is a folk tradition held every year in May, featuring traditional costumes, a procession through the village accompanied by a brass band and an evening dance at the cultural centre. Svatováclavské hody takes place regularly at the end of September in connection with the feast of Saint Wenceslas.

Martinské hody is celebrated in November. It includes traditional headwear, woollen scarves, slivovice and an evening dance accompanied by a cimbalom band. At the end of the year, the Church of Saint Wenceslas also hosts a long-standing Christmas concert tradition.

Transport and Local Event

Holubice is integrated into the IDS JMK integrated transport system. The 10th edition of “Holubácká sedmička” was a seven-event competition with ball games for teams of two.
