Dambořice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Dambořice combines sacred and Jewish local history with viticulture and routes through the village. A prominent building is the present-day Roman Catholic Church of Saint Martin of Tours: the late Baroque building dates from the second half of the 18th century, and its main nave was built around 1780. The church is a state-protected cultural monument.

Culture

The Jewish cemetery is located in Dambořice behind the Catholic cemetery. It was probably established around the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries; approximately 300 to 400 gravestones have been preserved there. This cemetery is also a state-protected cultural monument. In addition, the Dambořice Municipal Museum is located in the municipal office building and holds occasional exhibitions.

The new village square is also part of the village’s historical memory. Its design includes a park, pavilions and a fountain, as well as a memorial to the former synagogue of the Jewish community.

Routes

Dambořice lies on Class II state road No. 381. Cycle route No. 5095 also runs through the village, connecting Dambořice with Uhřice, Silničná and Zdravá Voda, where it reconnects with route No. 473. The Kyjov Wine Trail also passes through Dambořice.

Wine and Village Life

Dambořice is a wine-growing municipality with dozens of wine cellars and belongs to the Kyjov wine region. Preserved fragments of so-called Habán wine cellars from the 16th century point to the long history of viticulture; the surviving Habán wine cellars are privately owned.

A firmly established annual tradition is Martinské hody. The three-day event is celebrated in Dambořice every year on the first Sunday after the feast of the parish patron saint, Saint Martin of Tours, on 11 November. Four Stárci and four Stárky in Dambořice traditional costumes, as well as a cellar master, take part.
