Biskoupky: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Biskoupky lies on the left bank of the Jihlava River in the Střední Pojihlaví Nature Park. The landscape of this nature park is characterized by diverse types of terrain, forests, rock formations, and protected natural habitats.

Nature and Landscape

The Biskoupská hadcová steppe was designated a natural monument in 1979. It covers 2.21 hectares and lies at an elevation of 228 to 270 metres. As a protected natural monument, it is situated on serpentine rock slopes west of Biskoupky, above the left bank of the Jihlava River. Numerous pasque flowers and other endangered plant species grow on the steppe.

The Biskoupský kopec is home to thermophilous steppe grasslands with a population of the large-flowered pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis) as well as other specially protected and rare plant and animal species. The shallow soils there also support xerothermic grassland communities with scattered juniper trees.

Near Biskoupky, sedimentary outcrops of the Skryje-Týřovice Cambrian with fossils are exposed. A classic fossil site of the Czech Middle Cambrian is also located near Biskoupky.

History and Culture

A chapel has been preserved in the village square, and Biskoupky is also home to a reconciliation stone from the 17th century. The ruins of Templštýn, founded at the end of the 13th century and associated with the Templars in the Middle Ages, lie nearby.

Vítězslav Nezval was born in Biskoupky on 26 May 1900. He was a poet, writer, and translator, a co-founder of Poetism, and a leading figure in Czech Surrealism.

The birthplace of Vítězslav Nezval is a single-storey, two-winged building with a T-shaped floor plan. The long main wing has a hipped roof, while the short wing facing the courtyard has a gabled roof; the roofing is made of plain clay tiles. A memorial plaque with a bronze portrait of the poet is located on the eastern side façade.

The former one-class school building in Biskoupky was built in 1893 and used as a school until 1967.

Things to Do

The area around Biskoupky offers opportunities for hiking on a network of marked trails. The Templářská cycling route runs mainly along field and forest paths or Class III roads. On the Jihlava River, the section between the Mohelno Reservoir and Hrubšice is used for paddling.

Čarodějnický Dvůr Zoopark also features exotic animals and is considered a mini-zoo with attractions for children.
