Šafov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Šafov combines a village square with Baroque art and surroundings shaped by fishponds. The Church of St. Bartholomew stands on the village square; its Baroque interior includes frescoes depicting the legend of Saint Bartholomew by Josef and Václav Kramolín.

Culture

One of the notable details in the village is the sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. It stands on a slender, tall, three-tiered pedestal bearing the year 1728 in its inscription. Šafov is also home to a Jewish cemetery very close to the village. It is not enclosed and contains Baroque and Neoclassical gravestones.

Landscape

Šafov is surrounded by five fishponds: Podvesný, Celniční, Cihelný, Hraniční and Jánský. The nearest ponds are Podvesný and Celniční. The surrounding area is also home to the mountains of Kreuzberg, Goggitschberg, Schwalbenfelsen and Binderberg. Schloßberg, a historic site considered to be a ruin, is also located in the surrounding area. In the wider regional area are Karlslust Castle, a château, and Papstwarte, a lookout point. Heimatkreuz, a wayside shrine, is also located near Šafov.

Cycling routes

A 53 km cycling tour through the wider area around Šafov leads to castles and châteaux in the western part of the Czech Podyjí National Park and in Austria’s Thayatal National Park. The Greenway Prague–Vienna cycling route also passes through Šafov on its section in the Znojmo area.
