Stříbřec preserves a distinctive piece of South Bohemian architectural history with its old smithy. The brick technical building dates from the first third of the 19th century and is an architecturally and urbanistically valuable example of this type of construction. With the open front arch of the working forecourt, the smithy became a symbol that helped shape the model of a South Bohemian village in the 19th century. It has been protected as a cultural monument since 3 May 1958.

Culture and History

Stříbřec is home to the Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, dating from 1860. The Church of Saint John of Nepomuk in Stříbřec continues to serve religious ceremonies to this day. The school garden also contains a bust of the writer Ivan Olbracht, who hid in Stříbřec during the occupation from 1939 to 1945. A monument in the garden in front of the school commemorates his stay.

The Hofbauer family estate also combines the history of the village with a prominent personality. One of the oldest buildings in Stříbřec is a structure originally built as a fortress, which later became the Hofbauer family estate. The singer Ema Destinnová frequently visited this estate.
