At the heart of Orlik nad Vltavou stands Orlík Castle. Its tour leads through the interiors, which, with the exception of four rooms on the first floor, have largely been preserved in the condition in which the Schwarzenbergs were forced to leave them in 1948. The tour also presents the history of the castle and the Orlík line of the Schwarzenberg family; it displays portraits, family trees, and an extensive collection of orders and awards.

The present-day form of the extensive landscaped park of Orlík Castle emerged after 1802 under Karl Filip of Schwarzenberg, who established a cadet branch of the family based in Orlík there. Promenades were laid out in the park as walking paths through the landscaped grounds.

The park of Orlik nad Vltavou is also home to the Schwarzenberg Tomb, a Neo-Gothic family mausoleum for a cadet branch of the Schwarzenberg family. It was built between 1861 and 1864 according to the plans of Karl III Schwarzenberg and consecrated in 1864. The mausoleum is located in a manor park about 1,500 metres northwest of the castle.

The Orlík Aquarium presents an exhibition about freshwater fish from Czech waters, including carp, pike, perch, and trout. Photographs document the beginnings of the Orlík Reservoir and its former surroundings. An exhibition of live Atlantic salmon explores the former life of these fish in Czech rivers until their extinction in the 20th century.

Nature

At the Orlík hydroelectric power station, the engine room and the dam can be visited. The tour lasts about one hour and is available year-round with prior reservation. The site can be reached by car, bicycle, or an excursion boat from Orlík Castle, among other options.

The Orlík–Zvíkovské Podhradí educational trail runs along the left bank of the Vltava from Orlík to Zvíkovské Podhradí. It is approximately 30 kilometres long, has 15 information boards, and is intended for pedestrians; its starting point is at Orlík Castle.

The mountains Hrby, Chlum, Jenšovice, and Zvíkovec are located in the vicinity of Orlik nad Vltavou.

Geographical location

In the immediate vicinity of Orlik nad Vltavou is the historical site “Lety u Písku. Památník holokaustu Romů a Sintů v Čechách”. The area is also home to Hrad Zvíkov Castle and the Church of Svatý Jan. In the wider regional surroundings of Orlik nad Vltavou are the ruins of the Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast.
