Libějice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Tábor–Bechyně railway line creates a special connection to the region: it has been in operation since 1903 and was built and operated as an electric railway from the outset, making it the first railway in Central Europe to do so.

Culture and history

Libějice is described as a settlement of early medieval origin. The first written mention of Libějice dates from 1379 and is associated with the so-called Rožmberk Urbar of 1379. The historical name of the village was Libějovice.

The preserved urban structure and characteristic rural buildings of Libějice are among the municipality’s greatest assets. The historic bell tower in Libějice dates from 1872. Its bell was cast in 1947 and refurbished as part of the reconstruction.

Landscape

Libějice is located in the Malšická pahorkatina, a subregion of the Táborská pahorkatina. Agriculture is the most important land-use function of the landscape in Libějice; there are very few forested areas in the cadastral territory.

The area around Libějice is dominated by a mosaic of forests with an altered tree-species composition, fields and meadows. In terms of the plant production of the agricultural land, it is an average area; at the same time, Libějice lies in a forest-and-field landscape.

Nature and trails

Kukle Nature Park lies southwest of Libějice. The surroundings of Libějice are suitable for walks and hikes. Along the road from Libějice towards Malšice there are wayside crosses or small sacred shrines, known in Czech as “Boží muka”.

The Vienna–Prague long-distance cycle route of the Greenways programme passes through Libějice.

Getting around

Access to the station building or the passenger shelter at Libějice railway station is barrier-free. However, the platforms are not accessible without barriers or do not meet the prescribed height.
