Jílovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Jílovice lies among ponds on the border between the Třeboň Basin and the Novohradské Mountains. The landscape combines bodies of water, forests and traces of history.

Landscape

Veský Pond covers approximately 22 hectares and was formerly called Velké Jitro. During the time of Vilém of Rosenberg, the pond builder Štěpánek Netolický had it created. In the vicinity of Jílovice, the Brouskův mlýn National Nature Reserve is not accessible to visitors; the best way to observe the area is from a road bridge. The reserve also includes the cadastral area of Jílovice u Trhových Svinů.

In the area around Jílovice, the large forest belt extending as far as Nové Hrady is associated with mushroom picking in summer and autumn.

Culture

The painter and graphic artist Antonín Homolka was born on 20 July 1909 in Jílovice near Trhové Sviny.

According to the municipality, the Church of St James in Jílovice dates from 1370. It preserves the south portal of its original Early Gothic structure from around the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries. Its furnishings include an altarpiece depicting St James, painted by František Čermák in 1858; the oldest documented item is a pulpit from 1720.

Jílovice Nádraží is home to the private Veteran Muzeum Roděj, a collection of historic vehicles. Some of the vehicles are more than 100 years old.

Traditions

The St James church fair is held regularly on the last Sunday in July. Regular cultural events in Jílovice also include a traditional Masopust carol, a door-to-door begging and singing custom held during the pre-Lenten carnival season.
