Domanín U Třeboně: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Domanín lies on the western edge of the Třeboňsko Protected Landscape Area and is part of the Rožmberk fishpond system. Between the water landscape, sacred buildings and traces of cultural history, a multifaceted townscape emerges.
Paths through the Fishpond Landscape
The Cesta kolem Světa educational trail is a 12-kilometre closed circular route around the Svět fishpond and is intended for walkers. It runs through the cadastral area of Domanín u Třeboně and has 16 information panels covering ecology, typical plant and animal species, the history of fish farming and spa operations, and the development of folk architecture.
The Okolo Třeboně cycling educational trail is a 39-kilometre circular route with 22 bilingual information stations. In Domanín, it runs along the dam of the Opatovický fishpond.
Water and Nature
The Nový fishpond in Domanín is used as a natural outdoor swimming pool. Sport fishing is also possible at the fishpond. The protected Eurasian otter occurs in Domanín; the white-tailed eagle can also be found here.
Sacred Buildings
The cemetery Church of St. Giles in Domanín is a single-nave church from the 16th century with a projecting tower façade. From 1784 to 1876, it served the Schwarzenberg family as a burial place. Inside, there is a fresco from 1588 by Tobiáš Fels from Jihlava.
The Chapel of St. Wenceslas in Domanín was built in 1924–1925 and consecrated on 28 September 1925. Its interior was decorated with wall paintings by Karel Svolinský in 1926. The chapel is considered a valuable example of modern sacred architecture from the interwar period.
History and Culture
The Schwarzenberg Tomb is located at the entrance to Domanín from the direction of Třeboň, on the southeastern side of the Svět fishpond, and is surrounded by an English landscape park. The two-storey Neo-Gothic building has the shape of a regular octagon and contains 26 coffins. The Schwarzenberg Tomb is open year-round.
The first written mention of Domanín as villa Domanyn dates from 1367; in 1376, part of the municipality passed to the Augustinian monastery in Třeboň. The Svatováclavské slavnosti s poutí is the largest regular cultural event in the municipality of Domanín.
