Spáňov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Spáňov lies on the border between the Všerubská vrchovina and the Podčeskoleská pahorkatina at an elevation of 440 metres above sea level. Its location combines a clearly defined landscape with remarkable cultural monuments in the village and its immediate surroundings.

Landscape

On the western side of Spáňov lies the slightly elevated Domažlický háj woodland. A pond used for fire protection and fish farming is located on the southwestern edge of the village.

Culture and History

A late Baroque chapel from the second half of the 18th century stands on Spáňov village square. The chapel is hexagonal and has a bell tower; inside, there is a folk painting of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary.

In the immediate surroundings of Spáňov lies the Rýzmberk castle ruin with an observation tower. Rýzmberk Castle was founded in the second half of the 13th century on a high hill near Kdyně. In the vicinity of Spáňov, it controlled the Všerubský Pass, through which an important trade route to Bavaria ran.

Experiences in the Surroundings

The Klobouk u Kouta gloriette stands in the immediate surroundings of Spáňov on a hill between the villages of Kout na Šumavě and Spáňov. The gloriette was built in 1723 by the Kout estate. It was probably intended as a small structure to enliven the park-like landscape and provide the estate with a place to rest while enjoying a beautiful view of Kout Chateau and its picturesque surroundings.

The Koráb observation tower offers views of the Domažlicko region, the Český les, the Šumava and Bavaria from the immediate surroundings of Spáňov.

The completed Kout–Spáňov cycle route forms part of the planned Domažlice–Kdyně cycle route. The railway line between Domažlice and Brno runs through Spáňov.
