Horní Kamenice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Gothic ruins of Lacembok Castle are located in the cadastral area of Horní Kamenice. Clearly preserved fortifications and the basic structure of the castle can still be seen at the site today. An information board is located on the upper plateau.

Landscape and History

Horní Kamenice stretches across both slopes of the valley of the Srbický potok stream and lies on the edge of the extensive Vytůň forest. Archaeological finds in the surrounding area indicate relatively permanent settlement from the Middle Bronze Age to the end of the Early Iron Age. Behind Horní Kamenice, in a forest towards Mytě, there is a Bronze Age burial mound cemetery. Horní Kamenice Park lies at the foot of the hill towards Vejpich and includes a well owned by the municipality.

Culture and Townscape

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk was built in 1902 after the older chapel was destroyed by fire. It forms part of the pilgrimage celebrations “Slavnost kaple svatého Jana Nepomuckého”, which include a Mass. The Hornokamenická Fortress, connected to the Panský dvůr, dates back to the 13th century. Horní Kamenice has preserved its characteristic townscape, with gabled roofs and vernacular-classical façades on most of the houses; so-called gates have also been preserved at houses No. 3 and No. 5.

Routes and Events

The educational hiking trail “Naučná stezka Po stopách Jiráskovy Lucerny” runs through the cadastral area of Horní Kamenice. The cycling tour “Na kole na koláč” follows forest paths to Krchleby for the regional speciality Krchlebský koláč and takes place at the beginning of October as the conclusion of the cycling season.

In Horní Kamenice, the Masopust parade always takes place on the Saturday before Shrove Tuesday. The “Sjezd na čemkoliv” event starts in Vejpich and ends at the park.
