Construction of Osvračín Castle began in 1720 based on a design by the renowned Baroque architect František Maxmilián Kaňka.
Culture
Osvračín Castle was designed as a hunting lodge with a Baroque garden. The castle also has a greenhouse that was formerly heated.
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is first mentioned in 1384. It was originally Gothic and dates from the 14th century; its tower is 27 metres high.
History
There was once an early Gothic castle east of Osvračín. Osvračín Castle fell into disrepair after it was no longer used as the owners’ residence. Remains of walls with a loophole window were uncovered at the Osvračín castle site.
Nature
The “In the Footsteps of Jirásek’s Lantern” educational trail begins in Osvračín and has ten information boards. It leads from the Osvračín stop through the Zubřina Valley to the Hlohovská tůň pool.
