Plešnice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Plešnice combines a characteristic village feature with the Buben Castle ruins and a network of marked trails. On the village green stands the Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity, “Kaplička Nejsvětější trojice”, which dates from the first half of the 18th century. The village green is situated on a steep slope. A vault painting in the chapel depicts angels carrying a cross into the sky.

Culture and History

The settlement of Plešnice was founded sometime in the 13th century. The Buben Castle ruins in the cadastral area of Plešnice comprise an outer bailey, a fortified zwinger, a residential tower, an L-shaped palas and a high defensive wall. The ruins are located 1,200 m northeast of Plešnice at the confluence of the Úlický potok and the Mže and are an important archaeological site.

Buben Castle is believed to have served an important strategic and trading function, as it was located on a valley route from Plzeň to Cheb. The castle ruins are freely accessible.

Nature and Trails

A blue-marked hiking trail to the Buben Castle ruins begins at Plešnice railway station. In addition, a blue-marked forest path runs from Plešnice to the ruins along the Úlický potok; it is also suitable for pushchairs. From Buben, the blue-marked hiking trail continues southeast towards Tlučná.

A green-marked hiking trail along the Mže leads towards the Hracholusky Reservoir. Long-distance cycle route No. 37 also runs through Plešnice via Železná, Bělá nad Radbuzou, Stříbro, Pňovany, Nová Jezná, Plešnice, Bdeněves and Plzeň.

Geographical Location

Plešnice can be reached from Plzeň by train in approximately 21 minutes; trains run roughly every two hours.
