Maňovice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Maňovice stands out for two very different stone monuments. The hexagonal Chapel of St. Bartholomew with its pyramid roof stands in the village square. It is an example of small-scale vernacular sacred architecture from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries and, together with the nearby Boží muka, forms a valuable complex. On the edge of Maňovice, the artificially shaped Maňovický drak rises from a rock; it was created by working on a stone that protruded into a bend in the road to Pačejov.

Culture and History

The Boží muka of Maňovice is a Baroque wayside shrine with a column made of local granite and consists of seven parts. It was erected in 1713; its construction was probably connected with a plague epidemic. The shrine stands on a specially fenced, park-like plot in front of the village chapel and an old cellar.

The Maňovický drak is also connected with a local tradition. According to local legend, the stone dragon once lived in the rocks above the village; a witch turned it to stone, and a consecrated cross was later placed in its head. The Maňovický drak was completed and consecrated in 1905; a stone enclosure with a wrought-iron fence around the dragon's head was built in 1926.

Mount Buzrakov (Plánický hřeben) is located in the vicinity of Maňovice. The nearby area includes Kbelík Hill [Velký Bor - Jetenovice], Vrchy Hill [Chanovice-Defurovy Lažany] and Boubínský Hill [Horažďovice - Horažďovická Lhota]. In the wider regional surroundings of Maňovice lies the ruin of the Radomysl Mediumwave Radio Mast.

Circular Trail

The Naučná stezka Maňovice begins at an intersection in the southern part of Maňovice and ends there again as a circular trail. The easy educational trail is 3.5 kilometres long and leads from Maňovice via the Maňovický drak and Prasecký les back to Maňovice.
