Kamenec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kamenec consists of rocky slopes with steppe vegetation, as well as adjacent meadows and wetlands in the floodplain of the Radnický potok. The area includes a relatively well-preserved floodplain and drying steppe formations that provide habitats for numerous plant and animal species. The Kamenec Natural Monument was first placed under protection on 27 February 1954.

Nature

The protected Kamenec site is home to the dusky large blue and the esparsetta blue butterflies. The meadow protected as the Kamenec Natural Monument also features a steep slope with dry grass and stones where lizards and slow worms bask in the sun.

The landscape near Kamenec, shaped by mining, provides a habitat for many rare beetle species. Along the route near Kamenec, there is a visibly poorer landscape shaped by the former mining of pyrite shale for the production of sulfuric acid.

History

The settlement of Kamenec was founded in 1760 by Baron Ledebour, owner of the Liblín estate. Kamenec was initially settled by German workers.

Early mining in Kamenec involved the extraction of coal-bearing rock, from which alum and green vitriol were produced. Visible traces of the mining remain in the vicinity of Kamenec.

Things to Do

The Okružní trasa Radnický potok circular hiking trail passes through Kamenec and runs through the valley of the Radnický potok. The Hylákův okruh educational trail also passes through Kamenec; the Kamenec Natural Monument is one of the main attractions along the Hylákův okruh.

The Kamenec natural area can be reached from Kamenec via the green hiking trail or cycle route 352.
