Kařez: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

A defining landmark of Kařez is the Church of St. John of Nepomuk. It was built between 1942 and 1947, is the youngest ecclesiastical building in the Rokycany District and features a main altar consisting of five paintings.

Culture and history

Some of the workers’ houses built according to a uniform design have survived to this day. These include the groups of houses now known as “Pětidomí” and “sedmidomí”. The former school in Kařez is a historic building dating from 1830. The rectangular stone known as a “reconciliation stone” bears a raised relief of a Latin cross.

The partisan memorial in Kařez commemorates the Podbrdy partisans who were active in the area during the Second World War. Approximately 3 km east of Kařez lies a partisan bunker built in 1943, where nine partisans hid. The partisan shelter is located on a slope along a blue-marked hiking trail and can be reached via an access path with wooden stairs.

Nature and landscape

Kařezské rybníky is a protected natural monument that also extends into the cadastral area of Kařez. The natural monument consists of four named ponds: Dolejší Kařezský, Hořejší Kařezský, Bechyňský and Němec. Kařezské rybníky protects breeding and migratory habitats for waterfowl. In addition, three new pools have been completed there; they are filled with water and are beginning to fulfil their ecological function.

The forests around Kařez are suitable for walks, hikes, mushroom picking and gathering wild forest fruits. The forests and ponds around Kařez are used for recreation and relaxation.

Geographical location

Kařez railway station is located on line 170 between Beroun, Plzeň and Klatovy. It provides step-free access to the station building and all platforms. An interchange on the D5 motorway between Prague and Plzeň is 2.5 km from Kařez.
