Vápno: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vápno combines traces of nature, local history, and tangible places from everyday life. At Vápno’s lower pond, the pond serves as an ice-skating rink for children and teenagers in winter.

Nature

Sušina is a low, wooded upland, the western part of which lies in the cadastral area of Vápno. Several hollows and uneven features in the terrain remain as remnants of limestone quarrying from the first half of the 19th century.

The spring at Vápno’s lower pond has three outlets. From the edge of the forest behind Vápno cemetery, there are extensive views across the Polabian Basin.

In the immediate vicinity of Vápno are the hill (Zástava) [Vápno u Přelouče], Sušina Hill [Sopřeč], and Kozí hora Hill [Klamoš]. In the wider regional surroundings of Vápno are Kamenec Mountain and Zámek Kačina Castle.

Activities

The children’s playground in the forest behind the school in Vápno also serves passing cyclists as a rest stop, as a signposted cycle path runs there.

Culture

The Church of Svatý Jiří is located in the vicinity of Vápno. The Church of St. George in Vápno has been documented since 1366. The foundation and chancel of the original Gothic Church of St. George have been preserved; it also houses a Baroque pewter baptismal font dating from 1677.
