Culture and History

The earliest surviving written records of Libecina date from 1461. Libecina is a village with a village square and a radial settlement pattern; the shape of the village square has been distorted by the terrain, with its eastern side being almost semicircular. The older part of Libecina, situated around the village square, is characterised by large farmsteads on favourably located plots of land.

The village square is home to the restored Neo-Romanesque chapel, which dates from 1883. A restored monument to the victims of the First World War stands in the shade of mature lime trees at the crossroads at the entrance to Libecina, where the main road leads towards Vysoké Mýto. Commemorative ceremonies honouring the fallen are regularly held at this monument.

Landscape and Nature

The Střemošická stráň Natura 2000 site lies west of Libecina. It covers 46.4197 hectares and features semi-natural dry grasslands and shrub formations on calcareous subsoil, extensively mown lowland to foothill meadows, and a population of lady’s slipper orchids. In Bohemia, Střemošická stráň is considered one of the most important botanical and entomological sites.

The landscape around Libecina is used intensively for agriculture.
