Žumberk: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Žumberk is dominated by the ruins of Žumberk Castle, the town’s prominent cultural monument. At the same time, the town lies at the foot of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in an attractive, wooded landscape with steep, rocky slopes, a valley, ponds and the Holetínka stream.

Culture and History

Žumberk Castle is pentagonal in shape and is separated from the rest of the rocky spur on three sides by a deep, wide moat. The castle was inhabited by nobles until 1700. The Church of All Saints dates from the 14th century and is mentioned as a parish church in 1349; its sacristy contains a preserved late Gothic sanctuary.

The Žumberk Museum opened on 24 November 2007. Its exhibitions are based on documents from the municipal archives and donations from Žumberk residents. Another monument is the Horní Mill, Mrkvičkův mlýn: it is an immovable cultural monument with a preserved foundation inscription on a stone tablet dating from 1548. Svatý Jiří, a church, is also located in the wider regional surroundings of Žumberk.

Landscape

The surroundings include various elevations: Bučina is a mountain near Žumberk. The hill U Dubiny [Svídnice u Slatiňan] is located nearby, as is Ochoz Hill [Nasavrky]. Krkanka Mountain lies in the wider regional surroundings of Žumberk.

Recreation and Cycle Route

The Holetínka Valley is used for recreation and features a wooded holiday-home area extending upstream from Bítovany through Žumberk. A 62-kilometre cycling loop called “Through the Landscape of Ležák, Žejbra and Krounka” passes through Žumberk’s village square and leads to Žumberk Castle.

Other places in the same regional context include Raná U Hlinska, Rozhovice, Sec, Liboměřice, Dolní Bezděkov, Hodonín U Nasavrk, Ronov Nad Doubravou and Hrochův Týnec.
