Vidnava: Apartments and Holiday Homes
The remains of Vidnava’s late medieval fortifications from the 15th and 16th centuries form the natural boundaries of the town’s heritage conservation zone. The original square retains its river-stone paving as well as two columns with statues of saints.
Culture and Town History
A prominent building is Vidnava’s small Renaissance château, dating from the third quarter of the 16th century. The detached, single-storey building has two square corner towers with visible sgraffito, discovered during restoration in 1971.
Vidnava’s settlement exhibition is housed in the restored burgher’s house Dům partnerství at Sokolská 12. It covers the areas of history, geomorphology and zoology, a depiction of a black medieval kitchen, as well as notable personalities from Vidnava and the surrounding area. The exhibition is primarily aimed at tourists.
The town’s ecclesiastical architectural heritage includes the Parish Church of St Catherine, with its valuable 13th-century portal, and the Church of St Francis of Assisi. The latter was built at the end of the 19th century as part of the church grammar school of the time and invites visitors to pause, reflect quietly, and contemplate the spiritual and cultural heritage of the place. According to the date on a marble ashlar, the imposing tower of the Church of St Catherine, with its battlements and loopholes, was built in 1537 and reduced to 7.5 metres in 1883.
Nature
The Vidnavské mokřiny Nature Reserve was established on 10 April 1996 by Order No. 96/ŽP/891 of the Jeseník District Office. Rare aquatic plants occur in the protected area, including round-leaved sundew.
Bodies of water, ponds and marshy wet meadows invite visitors to go for walks, sit by the water, observe nature and fish.
