Javornik: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Javorník, Jánský Vrch Castle stands as a landmark on a rocky hill above the town. Its history began as a Gothic castle called Jawirnik; at the beginning of the 16th century, it was converted into a château and given the name Jánský Vrch.

Culture and history

Tours of Jánský Vrch showcase one of the largest collections of smoking pipes in the Czech Republic, as well as the castle’s service rooms. Jánský Vrch also preserves unique historic gas lighting in its interiors and main courtyard.

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Javorník is also part of the town’s historic skyline. It was built as a Baroque church between 1716 and 1723; its current form dates from 1866 and follows the design of the architect Schwarzer. The round Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was added to the church in 1755.

The town museum in Javorník features, among other things, a farmhouse room, a historic classroom, an armoury, a gendarmerie station and the town’s detention cells. The museum also includes an exhibition on the history of the gasworks, presenting the use of gas in Javorník from its beginnings to the present day.

Rychlebská zřícenina is the ruin of a Gothic castle whose original name is unknown. It stands on a rocky promontory of Přilba Hill, built in the 13th century, and is now considered a romantic destination for visitors to the Rychleby Mountains.

Cycling route and landscape

The “In the Footsteps of St. J. Nepomuk” cycle route runs from the SOUD tourist centre in Javorník to Bílý Potok. There are five tourist shelters along the route: three on the Polish side and two on the Czech side.

The nearby Čertovy kazatelny consist of unique gneiss rocks carved into the valley of the Račí potok stream. Also nearby is Tančírna, which invites visitors to enjoy a café in pleasant surroundings and a diverse cultural scene.

Getting there

Javorník can be reached by train from Jeseník or Lipová lázně; the journey includes a transfer to a motor train. By bus or car, the town can be reached via Route I/60 through Vápenná, Žulová, Skorošice and Uhelná, as well as via Route II/457 from Mikulovice through Vidnava and Bernartice.
