Kobylá Nad Vidnavkou: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Venušiny misky lie east of Kobylá Nad Vidnavkou, about 1.5 km from the village, on Smolný vrch at an elevation of 404 m.

Nature

The Venušiny misky have been protected as a national natural monument since 9 December 1971. They are a unique geomorphological formation featuring spherical jointing in granite. The weathering forms of the granite include rock basins, rock chairs, seats and niches.

A mixed forest dominated by Scots pine and European beech grows in the Venušiny misky protected area and on the summit of Smolný vrch. The cadastral area of Kobylá also includes part of the Bažantnice forest complex, with 404-metre-high Smolný vrch and a rock city.

Trails

There is a viewpoint on the highest rock of the Venušiny misky. Access has been secured with railings since the beginning of the 20th century, and several steps have been carved into the rock.

The “Žulovsko na kole” cycling tour follows Cycle Route No. 6047 past Smolný vrch and the Venušiny misky. It runs along the former castle avenue towards the railway station and continues into the Žulovská pahorkatina uplands.

Culture and History

Kobylá Chateau was built in 1570 and is protected as a cultural monument. It has an Empire-style façade. Four female figures carved from stone are located above the original Renaissance portal. The chateau park in Kobylá was laid out in the 1830s by Baron Karel Klet of Skal.

The Church of St. Joachim was built in 1787–1788 in the Neoclassical sacred style; construction was financed from the Religious Fund of Emperor Joseph II. It was consecrated in October 1788 by the episcopal prince-commissioner Ignaz Kunzler. The church has an altarpiece associated with the Baroque painter Ignác Raab.

During work on the Church of St. Joachim, an original painted illusionistic altar on the end wall of the presbytery was discovered, uncovered and restored. Only the Chapel of St. Joseph remains; it is in very poor condition.
