Culture and History

The Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria in Uhelná was completed in 1803 and is a single-nave Classical building. It is considered an important cultural monument. The Church of Saint Catherine in Uhelná has preserved its original furnishings and remains almost entirely intact.

Another historical landmark is the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Uhelná. It is protected as a heritage monument and dates from the period after 1800. Since the beginning of the 20th century, Uhelná has been known for its pottery production.

Landscape and Nature

The settlement of Uhelná stretches along the Stříbrný potok stream. The southern part of Uhelná lies in the foothills of the Rychlebské hory Mountains and reaches an elevation of 500 m above sea level.

The Rychlebské hory–Račí údolí area includes two rocky, deeply incised valleys with steep slopes and numerous rock outcrops. Acidophilous beech forests are the predominant forest biotope type in the extensive forests of this area. The Rychlebské hory–Račí údolí area also includes the cadastral territory of Uhelná.

Water and Geology

Důl Antonín Pelnář, a flooded brown coal open-pit mine, lies 700 metres east of Uhelná. The site is accessible without restrictions; the access road reaches to within 250 metres of the site. The grounds of Důl Antonín Pelnář serve as a natural swimming area and recreational centre. At the same time, Důl Antonín Pelnář is a geological site registered with the Czech Geological Survey.

Cycle Route

The educational trail along cycle route 6044 runs through Uhelná between Račí údolí and Vlčice.
