Žákovice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The Moštěnka is Žákovice’s main watercourse and flows through the village from east to west.

Water and landscape

On a hill in a grove near the Žákovice excursion area stands a winter lime tree protected as a natural monument. In the eastern part of the village, there is also a watermill with a small hydroelectric power station.

History and monuments

Žákovice has been documented since 1293. Local monuments include a 17th-century chapel located above the village and a wayside shrine beside a road.

The Chapel of Saint Nicholas was built in the 18th century and stands in a lime-tree grove at a crossroads near Žákovice. The village centre has a triangular layout and is lined with rows of farmsteads. Its defining building is the bell tower.

Traditions and local life

During the Masopust season, the recurring local masked procession “Vodění medvěda” passes through Žákovice. Since 2011, members of TJ Žákovice have held a gathering under the pergola on Mondays from spring to autumn. Visitors can enjoy refreshments as well as grilled or smoked specialities.

Leisure and cycle route

Žákovice has a sports and recreation area with a football pitch and a multi-purpose court. The Záhorská cycle route runs through the village towards Lipník nad Bečvou and in the other direction towards Bystřice pod Hostýnem.
