Krnov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

On the Vorderní Cvilín hill above Krnov, at an altitude of 437 m, stands the Baroque, red-and-white pilgrimage Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross and Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows, with its two towers. The Church of Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows is a national cultural monument and has Stations of the Cross. Every year, the pilgrimage church on Cvilín welcomes numerous visitors for regular religious pilgrimages. Also on the Vorderní Cvilín hill, the Lichtenštejnská rozhledna lookout tower offers expansive views of the surrounding area.

Jewish Heritage

The Krnov Synagogue was built in 1871–1872 in the Neo-Romanesque style. Its Moorish interior is inspired by the architecture of Sephardic Jews. The synagogue currently serves as a museum, exhibition venue, and cultural and religious space. Since 2020, it has been part of the „European Trails of Jewish Cultural Heritage“ project and, since 2021, also of the „Technotrasa.cz“ project of the Moravian-Silesian Region.

Building History and Notable Figures

The Church of Saint Benedict in Krnov-Kostelec was built at the beginning of the 13th century; its original presbytery has been preserved as a sacristy. The Flemmichova Villa offers a different architectural highlight: it was built between 1914 and 1917 as the family residence of textile manufacturer Theodor Flemmich and was designed by Viennese architect Otto Prutscher. The villa’s exhibition rooms are open to visitors daily except Mondays; guided tours are available on request.

Franz Rieger returned to Krnov in 1844 as an organ builder.

Viewpoints

The Vyhlídka lookout tower is located on Ježník. For organised tours, the left tower of St. Martin’s Church should also become accessible, with views from the gallery. Visitors should be able to see Krnov from the windows of the tower keeper’s apartment and from the gallery.
