Kravaře: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Kravaře can be explored particularly vividly through its buildings and extensive palace park. At the heart of the historic architecture is Zámek Kravaře, a two-storey Baroque building with four wings, a rectangular inner courtyard and an octagonal chapel with a high dome. The Zámecká kaple is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. It was built in the Baroque style and is vaulted by a very high dome supported by pillars.

Baroque architecture and sacred spaces

At the Zámecké muzeum, a permanent exhibition takes visitors through the various stages in the development of Kravaře’s Baroque palace. The history of the building is therefore not limited to its external form, but is made visible through several periods of development. Another distinctive building is the church Kostel sv. Bartoloměje. Its white Renaissance tower dates from the first third of the 16th century. The tower also contains a stone baptismal font dating from the same period as the tower. Thus, different sacred and secular architectural elements stand side by side here: the palace, chapel, museum and church each form specific historical sites in Kravaře.

Palace park and children’s educational route

The palace park adds a distinctly landscaped dimension to the palace complex. The Eichendorff family created it in the second half of the 18th century. Today, the park covers 21 hectares and is home to almost 100 varieties of deciduous and coniferous trees and shrubs. Streams, ponds and romantic corners of the park are also part of its described design. Among these park features, the children’s educational route Putování s veverkou Adélkou was offered as a route with adventure and search tasks. The palace park thus combines its historic layout with a form of exploration explicitly offered as an educational route for children.

Aquapark and wellness

Another side of Kravaře is represented by Městský aquapark Kravaře. It features a lazy river and a 65-metre water slide. The facilities also include a Finnish sauna, a steam sauna and a whirlpool. Water attractions and various facilities for warmth and relaxation are therefore brought together in one place, without the palace park or historic buildings having to provide the thematic setting.

Golf in the palace park

Golf is also connected with the palace grounds. Zámecký golf club Kravaře has a nine-hole golf course located among mature trees in the palace park. The club offers the public golf lessons, a pro shop, golf-club hire and golf-course rental. Closed tournaments are also held. The facility thus combines a specific golf course with the other named club services and event formats.

A long-standing local tradition

Kravařský odpust is part of the cultural calendar. It is a more than one-hundred-year-old tradition of the patronal festival of the local parish church of St Bartholomew. The festival always takes place around the Sunday closest to 24 August. The timing is therefore not tied to a fixed calendar date, but to the Sunday nearest to that August date each year.

The surrounding landscape, near and farther afield

The landscape around Kravaře includes the Odkryv National Nature Reserve. It is located in a former open-pit mine near Kravaře and covers 1.6 hectares. The mountains of Přílet and Vinná hora are also located in the surrounding area. Oldřišovský kopec [Kravaře ve Slezsku] is a hill in the vicinity of Kravaře, as is Hadí kopec [Chlebičov]. The geographical classification distinguishes between the surrounding area and the immediate vicinity.

In the wider regional surroundings of Kravaře are Rzuchow - Zameczek, a castle, and Cvilin, a ruin. The landscape and cultural landscape described therefore extends from a former open-pit mine through mountains and hills to historic buildings outside the immediate vicinity of the town.
