Nature and landscape

The source of the Nisa in the territory of Nová Ves nad Nisou is designated as a significant landscape feature. More than 60 species of meadow plants grow on Květnatá louka on Horní Černá Studnice in the municipality of Nová Ves nad Nisou, including specially protected species.

The wet meadows of Horní Černá Studnice are home to the broad-leaved marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis), common spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii), lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica), bogbean (Menyanthes trifoliata), hare's-tail cottongrass (Eriophorum vaginatum), common cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium) and marsh marigold (Caltha palustris).

The Prameništní rašeliniště spring fen comprises birch stands and wet meadows where endangered plant species occur. These include arnica (Arnica montana), broad-leaved marsh orchid (Dactylorhiza majalis), frog orchid (Gymnadenia conopsea), round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), common cottongrass (Eriophorum angustifolium), common spotted orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) and Homogyne alpina.

The Novoveský javor has been designated a protected commemorative tree in Nová Ves nad Nisou since 2010. Next to the tree there is a rest area with seating, a climbing frame for children and beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Viewpoints and trails

The international Odra–Nisa cycle route runs from Nová Ves nad Nisou to the Baltic Sea and is 591 km long.

The Nisanka lookout tower stands on Novoveský vrch and was opened on 5 May 2007. Since 2008, the New Year's ascent has been held there regularly, as well as spring festivals in May as part of the celebrations of the Nisa River.

The 12.5 km-long Smržovský vyhlídkový okruh leads, among other places, to the source of the Nisa and through Nová Ves.

Culture and community life

The Catholic Church of Panny Marie, Pomocnice křesťanů in Nová Ves nad Nisou dates from 1935, retains its original furnishings and has stained-glass windows. Since the late 1990s, local volunteers have occasionally organised concerts in the church in addition to regular services.

The Protestant Gustav Adolf Church dates from 1935.
