Dessendorf: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Černá Desná natural monument protects a valley with a mountain stream, a series of waterfalls, rapids, rock slabs, and erosion formations such as enormous potholes and plunge pools. The protected area also includes an adjacent hillside forest resembling an acidic beech forest, with endangered herb species.

Culture and History

Riedelova vila houses a cultural and information centre, a library, and a museum with permanent exhibitions on regional history and the Riedel glassmaking family, as well as historical documents and glass. The grounds of Riedelova vila host the traditional Sympozium Desná – dřevosochání motorovými pilami every year.

Riedelova hrobka is a family tomb built in 1889–1890 in the form of a chapel with a crypt in the Neo-Romanesque-Gothic style. It stands on the border between Desná II, formerly Potočná, and Desná III, Dolní Polubný. The preserved remains of the Protržená přehrada near Desná were declared a cultural monument in 1996.

Winter and Circular Trails

The Černá Říčka ski resort is located on the outskirts of Desná at an elevation of 685–788 m and offers skiing on natural snow.

The 4 km-long Po stopách skláře Riedela circular trail leads through Desná past cultural monuments and sights near the town centre, as well as places that once belonged to the Riedel family.

The Tanvald–Harrachov rack railway line begins at the Desná – Riedelova vila stop; its maximum gradient is 58 per mille.

In the wider regional area around Desná are the named castles Zamek Chojnik, Zamek Gryf, and Czocha - Zamek XIVw. The named Spalona Strażnica ruin is also located there.
