The Tanvaldský Špičák observation tower is an 18-metre-high stone tower dating from 1909 and offers panoramic views of the Jizera Mountains as well as the Czech and Polish parts of the Giant Mountains.
Nature
The observation tower can be reached on foot via marked hiking trails from Tanvald, Dolní Smržovka, Albrechtice or Jiřetín pod Bukovou. The Fanterova skála rock viewpoint, which was opened to visitors in 1889, is also located on Tanvaldský Špičák.
Hiking Trails
The hike “Za jizerskohorským duchem Muhu” begins in Tanvald and leads via Terezínka and Černá Studnice. Terezínka is a masonry lookout point with stairs on the slope of Mount Muchov; from Tanvald, it is easily accessible via a red-marked hiking trail. In 1853, Johann Mayer had the 15-metre-high rock at Terezínka fitted with a masonry lookout point and a railing.
As a circular route, “Kolem Tanvaldu” runs from the stop in Tanvald via the Špičák saddle, Desná, Světlá, Šulíkova skála and Svárov back to the Tanvald stop. The “Kolem Terezínky” excursion leads to places offering views of Tanvald, the Jizera Mountains and the Bohemian Paradise.
Cycling and Railways
The Tanvaldský Špičák bike park has around 12 kilometres of single-track, unpaved off-road trails leading from the summit of the mountain to the cable car valley station.
The Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov cog railway line has been in operation since 1902 and is considered the steepest railway in the Czech Republic.
Culture and History
The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in the Šumburk district of Tanvald is a protected cultural monument. The foundation stone was laid in 1899, and the ceremonial consecration took place on 15 August 1901.
