Mrklov: Apartments and Holiday Homes

Mrklov preserves several valuable elements of the traditional architecture of the Krkonoše Mountains. The predominantly agricultural village was settled along the water, similarly to Dolní Štěpanice.

Culture and History

Mrklov’s traditional architecture includes log cabins built into slopes, with low dormer windows that made it easier to bring in hay. Flax has been cultivated in the foothills since time immemorial; under the rule of Maria Theresa, domestic linen production expanded.

Tourism and winter sports led to a fundamental change in Mrklov’s population structure.

In summer, Mrklov is one of the areas that visitors can explore on foot.

Cycling Tours

KRNAP cycling route 10 leads from Horní Štěpanice via Mrklov and Křížovky towards Vrchlabí. The cycling route from Vrchlabí to Vítkovice runs on asphalt and paved paths and is also suitable for family outings with children.

The Benecko Circuit is a moderately long, challenging circular route with several steep climbs and descents. It leads via Bátovka to Mrklov and crosses the Cedron; along the way, it offers impressive views and opportunities for refreshments.

The “Mrklovské kolečko I” cycling circuit leads from Mrklov via Žalý and Rovinka to Horní Mísečky and back to Mrklov via Benecko. “Mrklovské kolečko II” is a moderately difficult 32-km circular route with around 1,162 metres of elevation gain. It starts and ends in Mrklov and leads via Křížovky, Benecko and Rovinka to Vítkovice and Rezek; it returns to Mrklov via Benecko.
